CCP CHRONICLES - A Brief History of our Time

The CCP was established in 2007 as the Centre for Content Protection under the auspices of the Motion Picture Association as a consortium committed to shaping the Asia Pacific’s digital future through innovative technologies providing secure and legal means for consumers to enjoy anywhere, anytime, any device access to their favorite music, movies, and television programs.

Its first Digital Future Symposium, involving more than 20 speakers and 300 attendees was launched the following year. A substantial number of basic ‘primer’ documents, mapping players in the region and offering research opportunities in this area were added starting in 2009, with the CCP organising conferences, seminars, workshops and other events on behalf of its members over the next two years throughout the Asia Pacific region, most notably in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. In 2010 the CCP signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Singapore to conduct research and coordinate strategic relationships with industry.

In 2011, the CCP was rebranded as the Centre for Content Promotion. Our 2011 digital future symposium, held at the National University of Singapore, featured more than 25 speakers from 6 territories and examined the status of online content delivery platforms throughout the Asia Pacific region. We teamed up with Digital Content Protection LLC to host the Asia Digital Protection Summit in 2012 in Shenzhen, China. Spotlight on Singapore: Online on track was convened during Branded’s Music Matters Conference in Singapore in 2014. 2015 saw various networking working sessions in Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam concluding with a further iteration of the Fast Track South East Asia Conference in Kuala Lumpur.

In 2016 and 2017, the CCP partnered with Singapore Management University to present a series of Insight & Analysis lectures on the SMU campus, featuring academic, industry, and legal luminaries from around the world. 2018 and 2019 saw the CCP co-host events in Indonesia Malaysia and Thailand But the emergence of Covid in 2020 necessarily reduced our activities to a more frugal online presence and the launch of a monthly newsletter focusing on the content industry evolution and refocus during the ensuing global pandemic.

Most recently, the CCP participated in the International Conference on the Historical and Cultural Heritage in Artistic Adaptation conference held in Quy Nhon, Vietnam in November 2022. In 2024 the CCP partnered with Asia Ventures Ltd. to co-host a virtual online conference examining the business of music and artificial intelligence.
